About New Farm
The family name Chalcraft has been traced back two millennia and can be found in the
Domesday book. Chalcraft literally translates as ‘calf-minder’ something our family continue to do to this day. We have been farmers in the area for over 300 years and New Farm has been in the family for at least 150 years (not so ‘new’ after all!). The farm is very much a working farm, with 650 acres of arable land, an Aberdeen Angus suckler herd of beef cattle and 9000 free-range chickens.
New Farm is in the village of King’s Somborne situated in Test Valley. King’s Somborne is a historical village and was included in the Domesday survey in 1086 when it was owned by the King in lordship and known as ‘Sunburne’. There are over 100 listed buildings in the parish and a seasonal river runs through the village and across the farm.
