Activities in the local area

Walking the Clarendon Way

One of the most popular walks in this area is the Clarendon Way; many walkers travelling this route have rested their weary legs for the night at New Farm. Crossing the Test Valley between King’s Somborne and Houghton, the Clarendon Way is a 24 mile walk joining the two cities of Winchester and Salisbury. Starting beside the River Itchen in the centre of Winchester and ending near the River Avon at Salisbury Cathedral, this walk provides a stunning variety of scenery. The Clarendon Way crosses directly through New Farm, making it the perfect place for walkers to come and bed down for the night.

There's also the Test way (see 'cycling the test way' below) and plenty of other shorter walks around the farm, to Farley Mount, the Water Meadows at Stockbridge and the old railway line (to name a few). We have maps at the farm we are happy to share with you.

Fishing on the River Test

The River Test is the longest chalk stream in the UK at 39 miles from source to estuary. Historically regarded as the birthplace of modern fly fishing, where better to give it a go?

Horse riding on the Stockbridge Downs

The area around the Test Valley makes for beautiful riding country with direct access onto the Stockbridge Downs, a National Trust Reserve.

Cycling the Test Way

Starting at Inkpen, high on the chalk downs this 44 mile long-distance route follows much of the course of the River Test to Eling where its tidal waters flow into Southampton Water. The Test is undoubtedly Hampshire's longest and finest chalk stream, world famous for its superb trout fishing.
